In the 18th century, the house adopted its classic Georgian appearance, a signature of the architect Pilkington. The Brand family occupied the house until it passed by marriage to the Reverend Cooke, the Rector of Semer. The hall has been used as a private school 'for the sons of nobility and gentry'.
