About this property
A rare opportunity to acquire a duplex apartment of remarkable character and scale.
Description
Wyfold Court Mansion was built in 1876 for Edward Hermon and designed by the renowned architect George Somers Clarke. An imposing and highly distinctive building, the mansion draws strong influence from the French Flamboyant Gothic style, evident in its ornate stonework, stained glass and dramatic architectural detailing. In the late 1990s, the property was acquired by the highly respected country house developer PJ Livesey, who sensitively converted the mansion into eleven exceptional private residences.
10 Wyfold Court is an elegant first-floor duplex apartment enjoying a desirable south and west‐facing aspect. The principal reception rooms and the principal bedroom suite are arranged laterally, retaining the magnificent proportions and original features of the building. These include high ceilings with ornate plasterwork, marble fireplaces and an abundance of stained glass windows set within stone mullions, allowing the apartment to fully capture the splendour of its historic setting.
The reception rooms feature wood block flooring and enjoy panoramic, far‐reaching views across the gardens, grounds and surrounding countryside. The second-floor bedrooms and bathrooms benefit from vaulted ceilings with exposed timbers, adding further character. The entrance hall features panelled walls and ceiling, wood block flooring and a staircase rising to the upper level. The magnificent double‐aspect drawing room has a wood block floor, marble fireplace and a full‐height bay window with stained glass set in stone mullions, overlooking the gardens and grounds.
The large kitchen/breakfast room is fitted with an extensive range of wall and floor units, complemented by a marble fireplace and integrated Neff appliances, including a double oven, microwave combination oven, hob and extractor, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. A breakfast bar provides informal dining, while the adjoining dining room enjoys views over the gardens and grounds.
A particularly special feature of the apartment is the charming, south‐facing turret, with window seats overlooking the gardens, stained glass windows, stone mullions with ornate carvings and a Gothic vaulted ceiling. Doors from the dining area lead to an impressive library fitted with extensive mahogany bookcases and a desk, together with a marble fireplace and French windows opening onto a pretty Juliet balcony. The stained glass above the windows is unique within the building, depicting figures representing poetry and literature.
The principal bedroom enjoys a marble fireplace, views over the gardens and access to a balcony, together with an en suite bathroom featuring a power shower, twin wash basins set in marble, WC and bidet. There is also a guest bedroom with a beautifully appointed en suite bathroom, two further bedrooms, a family bathroom and a separate WC.

Residents also benefit from the use of two tennis courts. The apartment includes secure underground parking for two cars with internal access to the main hall. A fully integrated fire protection system and video entry system are also installed.
Location
Wyfold Court occupies a beautiful setting in the Chilterns amidst 180 acres of parkland. Wyfold Court Mansion is an immensely impressive Grade II* listed building, built between 1872 and 1878 by Edward Hermon. The stunning building was designed by George Somers Clarke, a pupil of Sir Charles Barry, who was involved in the design of the Houses of Parliament.
Wyfold Court Mansion is reputed to be one of the grandest houses in the South of England and was converted by the highly respected country house developer P J Livesey in the late 1990s into eleven sumptuous apartments. During its restoration and conversion an enormous duty of care and understanding of the original design was incorporated into the conversion. Inspired by the French Flamboyant Gothic style of architecture, there is elaborate lead cresting and finials on the steep roofs and richly carved dormer windows sit alongside striking stone, carved heraldic beasts.
A vaulted carriage porch and vestibule lead into a large communal entrance hall with a tiled floor and then onto a spectacular 43' high grand staircase crafted in teak. There is a full height Oriel window filled with stain glass adorned with the arms of every English monarch from William the Conqueror to Queen Victoria and a number of fine, specially commissioned oil paintings decorate the walls. Wyfold Court Mansion is approached by a long private approach road arriving at a large gravel turning circle providing visitor’s parking. Secure underground residents’ car parking is approached separately and has direct internal access to the Concierge Hall.
