Exquisitely finished with an exacting eye for detail, this three-bedroom maisonette in West Hampstead has been reconfigured into a light-filled space with a private garden. Arranged over the lower and raised ground floor of a refined red-brick Victorian house, it has been pristinely remodelled whilst retaining its original fabric, including fireplaces, cornicing and high ceilings. Often referenced by designers such as Dinesen and Plain English, the apartment has been extensively featured editorially and was included in House London by Ellie Stathaki. Set on Iverson Road, the house well-placed to enjoy Kilburn and Queen’s Park, as well as the green spaces of Hampstead.
We’ve written about life in this home in greater depth.
The Tour
Positioned on a peaceful, leafy road, this split-level apartment has a handsome red-brick and cream faade. Entered on the lower ground floor, India Mahdavi geometric tiles complement the soft tones of the hallway walls and flow through to the main living space, passing by a handy WC and shower room placed next to the stairs.
At the rear of the plan is a wonderful kitchen and dining area with Dinesen Douglas Fir flooring running underfoot. Designed by the current owners, the space is beautifully conceived, with the kitchen (from British Standard by Plain English) running along one side and the dining space opposite. Marble countertops and cream cabinetry make up the former, with a superlative attention to detail evident in the marble trim that frames the skylights above. Miele appliances have been thoughtfully intergrated and the cooker is by Gaggenau.
Two sets of Crittall doors provide direct access to the garden and draw in stunning south-facing light. At the opposite end, there is a cosy living space finished with soft-pink raw plaster walls.
One of the home’s three bedrooms is found at the front of the downstairs plan; currently utilised as a study, it has a brilliantly offbeat toile wallpaper (designed in collaboration with Mike Diamond of Beastie Boys fame) decorating the chimney stack. There is also a useful showeroom on this floor with taps by Dornbracht.
The main bedroom is on the first floor and faces out towards the restored original sash windows. A generous row of in-built wardrobes line one wall opposite the original fireplace. Next door, a similar sized double bedroom overlooks the treetops and garden. The family bathroom has a freestanding bath with Boffi taps and a double sink. Natural plaster by clayworks adds a calming, serene touch.
Outside Space
A private garden extends beyond the kitchen, accessed via two sets of white Crittall double doors. There’s a substantial patio area with grey slabs that provides plenty of room for outdoor dining. Leafy flowerbeds, an expansive lawned area and an ivy-covered wall complete the tranquil space.
